Prison Ministry in Allegany County

Allegany County Prison Ministry was formed less than one year ago in the Belmont, NY Jail.  Opportunities for ministry with incarcerated women exist in the Belmont Jail because there are so few women relative to the incarcerated men.

Volunteers visit the jail once a week on Wednesdays and work with between 6 and 9 women at a time.  The Step-by-Step of Rochester curricula called “Women Brave” is now offered to these women.  Each week a biography of a great woman is presented.  The ladies are asked to talk about what made these people courageous , and they are asked to see the potential for greatness within themselves.  “What do you have that is good within yourself?” they are asked.

The ministry also does frequent evaluation with the incarcerated ladies.  What worked?  What did not work?  And why?  This ministry welcomes volunteers!
