Holy Eucharist and Group Dialog at the Steuben County Jail

For many years, Jan Farnsworth, a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Corning NY, has been offering Holy Eucharist and group dialog sessions in the Steuben County Jail one Sunday afternoon each month. During these sessions, she gives communion, hands out self-help books in both English and Spanish, and includes time for prayer and discussion. Many of the inmates are Federal prisoners awaiting placement in other facilities. In addition, there are a fair number of short termers who will only be incarcerated in the local jail. Her visits are always well received by the prisoners, and occasionally she feels particularly blessed when she meets a former prisoner long after release, and is told what a difference her presence has made in the person’s life.

For more information about this ministry and perhaps ways you might be able to support or participate in this outreach, contact Jan Farnsworth through the Christ Episcopal Church Office at (607) 937-5449, or via e-mail at
